Three exhibitions of the Berlin Israeli-German trans artist Yishay Garbasz are opening in April in Northern\u00a0Mitte, dealing with borders, remembrance and anti-fascism. This triple call rises in opposition to the\u00a0dehumanizing violence of October 7th, the war crimes that followed and their co-option via a culture of\u00a0remembrance: Never again!<\/p>\n
The programme starts at the Photolab-Showroom Pixel Grain with Severed Connections: Do What I Say or I\u00a0<\/i>Will Kill You.<\/i> The photo series documents everyday violence taking place at borders in Korea, Belfast and the\u00a0West Bank, as it manifests in landscapes and architectures of separation.<\/p>\n
It continues with the first exhibition of In My Mother’s Footsteps <\/i>in Germany and the reopening of Prima\u00a0Center Berlin. In this work, at first glance a deeply personal work on her mother’s Shoa survival, Garbasz\u00a0captures the locales of her mother’s experience in haunting detail. Her photographs and her mother’s\u00a0words, side by side, reveal the deep fractures in relationships and society left by trauma and the subsequent\u00a0silence.<\/p>\n
Finally, in a group exhibition\u00a0The Only Rule of Making Good Art is Punching Nazis <\/i>opens at Spor Kl\u00fcb\u00fc. The exhibition shows the\u00a0barbed-wire-sculpture Untitled Vagina #3, a comment on cisgendered border violence and racist birth\u00a0policies, as well as a film from the Severed Connections series, complementing the exhibition at Pixel Grain.<\/p>\n[Deutsch]<\/h5>\n

Das Programm beginnt im Fotolabor-Showroom Pixel Grain mit Severed Connections: Do What I Say or I Will\u00a0<\/i>Kill You.<\/i> Eine Fotoserie der K\u00fcnstlerin dokumentiert dort die allt\u00e4gliche Gewalt an Grenz\u00fcberg\u00e4ngen in\u00a0Korea, Belfast und dem Westjordanland als Landschhaften und Architektur der Trennung.<\/p>\n
Weiter geht es mit der Fotoreihe In my Mother\u2019s Footsteps<\/i>, die nach \u00fcber 10 Jahren erstmals in Deutschland\u00a0ausgestellt wird, und der Neuer\u00f6ffnung des Prima Center Berlin. In der auf den ersten Blick sehr\u00a0pers\u00f6nlichen Arbeit \u00fcber das Shoa-\u00dcberleben ihrer Mutter nimmt Garbasz die Schaupl\u00e4tze der Geschichte\u00a0in scharfem Detail auf. Aus ihren Fotografien und den Worten ihrer Mutter daneben tritt der tiefe Bruch in\u00a0Beziehungen und Gesellschaft zu Tage, den Trauma und das Schweigen dar\u00fcber verursachen.<\/p>\n
